Ramen Noodles and Knitting

Who loves ramen noodles?
It seems to me that people either love them or hate them.
There's no in between.
I happen to think they look gross,
but because I grew up eating them with certain meals,
I really like them,
and they bring back lots of memories for me.
Plus they're super cheap, which doesn't hurt!

I know this looks like a pile of ramen noodles,
but really it's not.
This is a picture of the shawl that I knitted
and had to undo
THREE TIMES
because I couldn't get the size right.
Seriously, y'all.
Three Times.

And I even knitted a guage swatch to begin with!
Ugh.
Sometimes I think I need some formal knitting classes.

Incidentally,
who knew that the yarn stayed so kinked up
after knitting with it?
Not me.

Anyway ... here's a (ugly iphone) picture
of how the shawl came out in the end.
(Pay NO attention to the ugly bathroom!!)
I really like it,
and am glad that I made the effort to re-do it.

Now I just have to wait
for the weather to get cold enough to wear it!!

Adventures in Refinishing

I wouldn't exactly call myself adventurous.
I mean ...
I have traveled to some fun places
and have done some fun things in my life
but mostly I love to stay home
and be with family and friends
and lead a quiet life
full of frappucinos. :)

So, when I'm looking for an adventure,
I end up turning to new crafty projects to get my fix.
(I know, I'm a dork.)

Recently, I decided that I needed to do something
with this old wardrobe from my childhood
which has been sitting in my garage
collecting dust
and bugs
and sticky old frappucino cups.
(I know ... gross.)

I have a vivid memory as a child
of coming home one day
and opening this wardrobe
to find a brand new purple flowered dress hanging in it.
Best Day Ever for my 6 year old self!

Incidentally, I found out recently
that this wardrobe
actually belonged to my mom
when she was a little girl.
Needless to say,
it has a lot of meaning to me.

SO ...
with the help of my awesome sister in law,
I'm embarking on an adventure
to refinish it
and use it as a storage cabinet in my office area.
Three guesses what color it will be when I'm done with it.
(Bet you only need 1 guess!)

I'm gonna have to rely on Suzanne
for a lot of the heavy labor
since my shoulder still acts up when I try to use it a lot.
Plus, I really don't know what I'm doing
and Suzanne does.
She's AWESOME at refinishing furniture.

Stay tuned for pictures of the finished product!
(If it turns out well, I might have a list of other things I want to work on!!)

Gift for Baby Boy Reid

I'm in that stage of life where everyone around me is having babies.

Actually, I've been in that stage of life for a while now.
One day it will be my turn.
But until then,
I am constantly trying to figure out fun new baby gifts to give.

It's usually easy for little girls.
I love to make dresses
and shoes

But, I always get hung up on boy gifts
Why is that???

I usually make a blanket or shoes
or break down and buy something off the baby registry.

So, recently,
while spending hours a few minutes on Pinterest,
I found some inspiration
to make a gift for some friends who just had a new baby boy.

It all started with a bowtie.
I wasn't born in the South, but I was raised here,
and I can appreciate a good bowtie
every now and then.

Look at how cute it looks on a onesie.

Then again,
you can never go wrong with a black tie.

How am I supposed to choose
between the green and the black???
They both look great to me!!!

SNAPS!!!!

Oh yes ...
They are interchangeable!

BRILLIANT!!!
