FUN new cozies in the works ...

I have been experimenting in my studio, and I have some fun new coffee cozies in the works. Last night, I actually stayed up late finishing one, and it turned out so fun that I think I might need to keep it for myself! (I'll just call it a "marketing expense") ;o) As if I need one more coffee cozy, right?

I'll post some pictures tomorrow, hopefully (as long as the sun is out!) ... and I'll definitely be asking for some feedback on whether or not I should put some of these in my shop. Until then, check out this amazing dress, which was my inspiration for the cozy I have decided to keep.

Mackenzie's Dress

GIVEAWAY BELOW ... Scroll down to the "Seeing Pink" post to enter!

I've been busy in my studio wrapping up some unfinished projects! It feels so good to finish things up, especially when they've been on my list for a while ... this dress is a perfect example.

My friend Amanda had a baby girl 4 months ago, and I'm just now finishing her gift!! (But don't worry ... I intentionally made an 18-month dress, so that I could be sure to have plenty of time to finish it before Mackenzie was big enough to wear it. Sneaky, huh?)

I took it with me on my recent trip to Ireland, and I smocked it on the plane. I did get tons of questions from my fellow passengers and the flight attendants ... but I'm used to that.

What do you think? I hope she likes it!

Happy.

GIVEAWAY BELOW ... Scroll down a few posts to enter!

So ... remember how I changed my living room around not long ago, and added blue everywhere? Well, my sister-in-law found a blue pitcher in my kitchen last night, and we decided it would be fun to add it to my living room decor. We figured it would look nice on the coffee table.

But, of course, I couldn't just put it there all by itself, could I? Nope ... I had to add my famous RED touch to it.

Fresh Gerber daisies. Aren't they gorgeous?
I have to admit, they make me smile every time I look at them.
It's SO nice to have fresh flowers in the house ... even if I have to buy them for myself! My mom always had a fresh bouquet of flowers on the dining room table ... and now I know why.

Happiness in a blue pitcher ...
Don't you love the combination of red & aqua?
Kinda reminds me of these ...

Another Day, Another Dress

(Don't forget to enter my first giveaway ... scroll down a couple of posts to enter!)

One of my good friends had a baby girl recently, so I decided to smock her a dress.

I prepped everything before my trip, hoping that the nice TSA folks would let me work on this on the plane. (I hate to not be productive for so many hours!!)

Here it is all laid out ...
This was actually the first time I've pleated a dress without breaking a needle. Yahoo!

Isn't this pretty fabric?
I love how feminine it is, even though it's blue!

These are the colors I'm going to use to smock it with.
I can't wait to see how it turns out!!
Let's hope that Mackenzie likes it!

All Dressed Up

(Don't forget to scroll down and enter my first giveaway! It's the next post down ...)

I'm working on a dress for a friend of mine's baby girl ... It's her first daughter, and after 3 sons, she's really excited about the prospect of pretty pink dresses and girl clothes. I would be, too ... I mean, no offense, but baby girl clothes are so much cuter than baby boy clothes.

Anyway ... she sent me the pattern, and I picked out my favorite fabric from my stash. I'm really excited to see how it turns out. Here's a preview ...

Yay for pink polka dots!
This will be the main part of the dress.

This brown with pink flowers will be the fabric for a pinafore that goes over the dress
and pantaloons for under the dress.
Yes, I said pantaloons. ha!

Looks like I have a lot of work ahead of me!

I'll have to finish this before July, so I'll hopefully be posting a finished photo soon!

Seeing Pink ... A GIVEAWAY!

No, you don't have to adjust your screen ... and no, I didn't decide to change my company name to "Pink Owl Designs" (although I'm sure my sister-in-law, who LOVES pink, wouldn't mind if I jumped on that bandwagon.)

Remember this post - where I said I would get around to explaining why I bought all sorts of pink fabric for my shop on our recent trip to Mary Jo's? Well ...

Recently, I have been doing some work with the Charleston Breast Center, a non-profit medical center here in Charleston that provides comprehensive breast care for women. This place is really fantastic. I know because I've been a patient there for the last year. Because both my mother and my grandmother died from breast cancer, I go for regular screenings to make sure that I continue to remain healthy. I have had a number of screenings/tests at the Charleston Breast Center over the course of the last year, and have consistently been impressed with the entire facility ... not only are they supremely competent, but they care. They see you as an individual, and they take time to invest in your health. (And, these days, you don't find that very often!)

Because of my family history, and my experience with this center, I decided that I wanted to support them in whatever way I can. SO ... I am VERY happy to announce that I am making a new line of pink items for my shop, and I will donate a portion of the proceeds from those items to the Charleston Breast Center.

The first set of pink items are in the shop now (just look for the pink owl in the photos), and I'll be adding more as time goes on. If you see something there you'd like to purchase, just know that you'll not only be getting a quality handmade item, but you'll also be helping support a very worthy cause.

For more information, or to schedule an appointment and/or tour of the center, click on their logo below :
And ... now for the giveaway ... just to continue the love, I'm going to give away a reuseable shopping bag (your choice!) to one of my lucky blog readers! No strings attached. Seriously ... you know you want to enter! (I'm so excited ... I won my first giveaway from Linda over at Craft Apple a few months ago, and I really want to pay it forward). SO ... here are the rules, people:

1. Go to my shop. (Click here)
2. Choose your favorite reuseable shopping bag.
3. Leave a comment to tell me which one is your favorite ... you know - the one you want me to send to you if you are the winner!
4. For an additional entry, tweet about this contest with a link back to this post (just make sure to tell me you tweeted it in your comment, and leave your twitter handle so that I can verify!)
5. For an additional 5 entries, blog about this giveaway with a link back to this post (again, make sure to tell me in your comment, and leave a link to your blog post)
6. For an additional 15 (YES, 15!) entries, purchase a qualifying pink item in my shop to help support the Charleston Breast Center. (There are a lot of really cute coffee cozies that qualify for this!)
7. Make sure to include in your comment an email address for me to get in touch with you if you win. I wouldn't want you to miss out on getting your fun new bag! (and, just to be clear ... I will only use your email to contact you if you are the winner.)

I'll pick a winner by random drawing on June 24th! Spread the word, folks!!!

Procrastination ...

So ... instead of packing today, I spent the day in my studio making this ...

Isn't it pretty?
I love this fabric ... I've been holding onto it for a while,
not knowing what to do with it ... until today.

Yep ... it's a stylish passport cover!
Don't you just love the combination of red and aqua?
I figure the customs officials are constantly looking at so many boring old passports ...
I may as well try to brighten their day with a little style!

And, of course, what good would a cute passport cover be without a matching coffee cozy?

Apparently, I care more about being stylish while traveling
than actually spending the time to pack my suitcase ...
which reminds me - I gotta run!

Oh ... and don't forget to check back next week for my very first giveaway ... and tell all your friends about it!

Some Custom Sewing Work ...

I just finished up some fun custom projects for a client ...

Can you guess what it is?

It's a baby bumper ... custom made to fit this client's brand-new crib
for her soon-to-be-born son. And when I say "custom made to fit" I really mean it ... right down to the placement of the ties so that they would be symmetrical when tied on the slats.

Here's a close-up ...
The main fabric is a white woven ... crisp and very pretty.
The ties are silk ... robin's egg blue.
And, it has some chunky piping at the top.
I think it's going to be very handsome in her dark-wood crib ...
can't wait to get a picture to share!

I also made custom cushions to fit this client's glider for their master bedroom :

I somehow have a hard time not thinking of this whenever I look at the back of this chair.
Weird, I know.

A close up of the fabric ... it's a really nice natural woven fabric.
It matches really well with their bedroom decor.

It was definitely nice to change it up a bit and do some different things.
I've been making so many coffee cozies and shopping bags for my shop recently that I almost forgot it was possible to sew other things!
